The unofficial projection explained
Why does the GTA 7 countdown point to 2040?
GTA7.date is a fan-made countdown, not an announced GTA 7 release date. January 21, 2040 is a projection that assumes the gap between GTA 5 and GTA 6 repeats for GTA 7, also written GTA VII.
How is the 2040 date calculated?
GTA 5 was released on . GTA 6 is scheduled for . The interval between those dates is 4,811 elapsed days, excluding the starting date. Repeating that interval gives:
November 19, 2026 + 4,811 days = January 21, 2040
This is a simple calendar calculation. It does not predict Rockstar’s development plans or establish when a future game will be released.
Is GTA 7 confirmed for 2040?
No. GTA VII has not been announced, and the 2040 date comes from this fan project. A previous release interval is not evidence of the next game’s release date. The countdown keeps its chosen target; later GTA 6 news does not automatically change it.
What time does the countdown reach zero?
The exact cutoff is . That chosen clock time is separate from the calendar calculation. It falls on January 21 in the US, which is the date shown above the timer:
- Los Angeles: January 21, 2040 at 17:00 PST
- New York: January 21, 2040 at 20:00 EST
- Stockholm: January 22, 2040 at 02:00 CET
These are the same instant in different timezones. The day counter shows full 24-hour periods remaining, so it drops at 01:00 UTC each day: 03:00 in Stockholm during summer time and 02:00 during winter time.
